The breaking of the bread

Allow yourself to be broken so people can simply live. Allow yourself to be broken so people can see Jesus in you.

In all the accounts of the Gospel, they agree that the resurrected Jesus had a different appearance. But, they always recognized Him in the breaking of the bread:

“And it happened that, while [Jesus] was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him.” — Luke 24:30-31

Not only did the disciples recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread. Other people also recognized Jesus in His followers and the early Christians when they broke bread with others, when they shared their time, their resources, their whole selves, and even their own lives — even when it hurt, especially when it hurt.

People saw Jesus in the early Christians and the martyrs when they allowed themselves to be broken so others can live.

Are you a follower of Jesus? Do you want others to recognize Him in you? Break bread with them. Eat with them. Spend time with them. Build a relationship with them. Share your whole self and even your whole life — even when it is uncomfortable, even when it hurts.

Allow yourself to be broken so people can simply live. Allow yourself to be broken so people can see Jesus in you.
