The proof of the resurrection

It was for that empty tomb that the disciples followed Jesus even unto death. It was for that empty tomb that countless other Christians were martyred. Their lives are further proof that Jesus was raised from the dead. But it all started because of that empty tomb.

Before the resurrected Jesus appeared to the disciples, the only proof of the resurrection was an empty tomb.

“You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Behold, the place where they laid him.” — Matthew 16:6

The only proof of the resurrection was something that has nothing. The only evidence for our belief was a tomb that was empty.

Yet, it was for that empty tomb that the disciples followed Jesus even unto death. It was for that empty tomb that countless other Christians were martyred. Their lives are further proof that Jesus was raised from the dead. But it all started because of that empty tomb.

We are called to have faith, even when we do not fully understand, even when the things we believe in are not yet fully revealed.

But, we are not called to just blindly believe. True faith requires that we believe with all of our minds, with all of our hearts, and with all of ourselves that Jesus was raised from the dead, that God is real, that He, the living God, is always with us.

Do you believe even when all you have for proof is an empty tomb?
