The fear of being insignificant

Maybe life is not about making a difference or becoming significant. Maybe it’s just about being loved…

For many of us, we fear not living lives that matter.

We fear becoming insignificant, even just in the eyes of our loved ones or those closest to us.

We fear not making a dent in the world.

We fear not making a difference.

We fear being forgotten, or at least, forgettable.

But today, the Gospel reminds us that we are and never will be forgotten for we will never perish.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” — John 3:16

Because of God, we are loved.

We will never be insignificant in His eyes.

We will never be forgotten or become forgettable.

Maybe we can never make a difference or make a dent in the universe. Maybe we will never be significant in the eyes of others.

But God loves us nonetheless. For Him, we are significant.

Maybe life is not about making a difference or becoming significant. Maybe it’s just about being loved…

… and sharing that love.
