We do first before we become.
It’s not the other way around.
We write first before we become writers or authors.
We create first before we become artists.
We follow Jesus first before we become saints.
Like in today’s Gospel reading, the faithful servant is not just the one whom the master put in charge. The faithful servant is the one whom the master finds doing what is right on his arrival:
So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. — Matthew 24:44-46
What do you want to become? Who do you want to become?
Do, then be.
