How do you act when there’s an incredible opportunity right in front of you? Maybe a job interview, an important meeting, a sales pitch, or a presentation.
Normally, we act in two ways:
- Option 1: We act as if we cannot waste the opportunity given to us.
- Option 2: We act as if we have nothing to lose.
The good thing about the first option is that we do our best to prepare for the opportunity. We don’t leave anything to chance. We make sure that we are ready for any contingencies.
However, at the very moment we are face to face with the opportunity, Option 1 can make us uptight. Fear can prevent us from being ourselves. Fear can cloud our judgment and hinder us from saying or doing the right things.
On the other hand, Option 2 allows us to simply be ourselves at the moment of truth. It draws out the best in us as it allows us to focus on what we can contribute, instead of focusing on what we can gain (or lose). It allows us to focus on our purpose rather than our fears.
But when preparing, this option gives us a pass to not do our best or give it our all. After all, what do we have to lose by not preparing well? Nothing.
When there’s an opportunity in front of you, prepare by doing Option 1. In your moments of truth, act as if you have nothing to lose.
In short: Do your best and God will do the rest.
You are not lacking in any way.
