I had three blog post ideas yesterday. Great! Or so I thought. Unfortunately, I was too busy in my day job that I wasn’t able to finish writing a single one. Although, I was able to outline those thoughts in my notebook.
Today, I’ll just share with you some personal updates. Is it okay?
Another reason why I wasn’t able to write yesterday is that I fell victim to a phishing attack. My dad’s iPhone was stolen last Monday and we tried our best to track it down using Apple’s Find iPhone app. Yesterday, I received a text message from a foreign number that my dad’s iPhone finally logged in to the internet. Being the Filipino that I am, since it was a foreign number (hooray for colonial mentality), I trusted the text message believing it was really from Apple. It stated a website (location-services[dot]info) and told me to log in to see the location of my dad’s phone. So, I tried logging in using my Apple ID and password. Voila! I just gave away my username and password (and my dad’s too)! In a matter of minutes, my dad’s phone no longer appeared on my Find iPhone app. They used either my account or my dad’s account to turn off the security on his phone and reset it.
Lesson learned… the hard way.
It’s a good thing that Apple sends updates via email when a computer tries to log in to your account. Yesterday afternoon, at just about the same time I fell victim to a phisherman (sorry, I couldn’t help it), I received an email that my Apple ID was used to log in using a computer I didn’t recognize. It was only during the evening that I asked my friend about this and confirmed that I fell victim to a phishing attack.
So, last night, I had to change all the passwords of my accounts, all 82 of them (being a blogger using so many apps and services online has its disadvantages). I started at 9:30 in the evening and finished at 1:30 in the morning.
This brings me to another update: an update on my 31-Day Challenge. I woke up at 5:05 this morning. That’s 35 minutes later than my target of 4:30 AM. So, should I still count this as Day 2 of 31? I realized that I should set another rule regarding this. But, right now, I’m going to be late for the second mass at 6:45 AM, so I’ll share it to you tomorrow. I won’t be as busy in my day job today, so I think I will be able to write that new rule (and at least one of my three blog post ideas). See you tomorrow!
P.S. "Give man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Fall victim to a phishing activity and you have to change all your passwords and sleep late." Be careful of phishing. Phishing is bad. Don't feed phishermen your username, password and other details. They're not food. You'll be sad.
