In this “productive” world where we live today, we often hear people telling us that whenever we feel discouraged, we should overcome our feelings by doing more or acting more. That we should never let our feelings or emotions dictate our actions.
I also believe that. But, there are some days when we just don’t have “it.” Whatever that is.
Lately, I have been learning to take better care of myself. I have been learning to step away from whatever I’m doing to rest and to take a break, even if it means being “unproductive” for a while. I read a book (a comic book, most of the time), take a nap, watch funny videos, or pray (it really works).
After refreshing my mind, body, and spirit, I often realize that I am not discouraged at all. I am just tired. And I get back to work more energized and more productive than I probably could have been if I forced myself to overcome my feelings by working.
Learn how to rest. It helps a lot.
