We didn't really exchange it for money. Or for a paycheck. Or for a 9-to-5 job.
We exchanged our freedom for what they represent — a false sense of security.
Unfortunately, most of us only realize that what we're holding onto — our jobs, the companies we are working with, our monthly paychecks — are not really secure when it's already too late. The company getting downsized. Redundant employees getting fired regardless of tenure. A business losing a long-term client.
In today's business environment, change is the new constant. It is only those who are willing to adapt, to learn, to reinvent themselves, to be vulnerable who will make it.
Changing (combined with adding value) is really the only way to today's income security. It's totally worth exchanging our freedom for.
Paradoxically, by exchanging our freedom for a chance at changing, we gain more freedom.
