… simply because you have the choice not to.
I hear so many people complain about what they watch on the news: crimes, violence, immorality, endless politics (come on, the senate hearings in our country never end), and so many other negativities.
Sometimes, it seems we are getting our minds conditioned that this is as good as it gets. That our world is on a race to the bottom. That all these negativities are simply a part of life. But, like in the movie Tomorrowland, we (especially our media) may be feeding the bad wolf. The wrong wolf. You have to wonder which came first: the chicken (the news) or the egg (the issues and negative incidents).
It still is important to be informed. We cannot be blind to the issues surrounding us. We need to stay aware in order to make a difference. But, at some point, we have to find the good in this world. Because they still outnumber the negative stuff around us: the father treating his child after coming home from work, the street vendor filled with joy and purpose regardless of how much she earns, the family who eats dinner together, the scientist who makes a breakthrough, the entrepreneur who persevered. The simple stuff. The simple stories. The ones that don’t get celebrated enough. The ones that people ignore.
You have to wonder what’s running the media more: responsible reporting or ratings (and the money associated with high ratings)?
