You’re worth our time.
We can’t wait to hear your stories, your thoughts, and your ideas. But, the world may have told you to just keep them to yourself.
Maybe someone didn’t pay attention to you. Maybe someone in your life didn’t bother to listen to your stories. Maybe someone didn’t seem interested to give you his attention.
I know how it feels. I love my family, especially my parents. But, my parents were authoritative figures. I was raised in a household where only adults had a voice. That was how their own parents, my grandparents, raised them as well.
I grew up not finding my voice. I grew up not being able to express my inner thoughts and ideas. I grew up not being confident. Until now, whenever someone asks me to share my story, I perspire (a lot) and I’m always in a hurry to get to the point and finish my piece. I’m always afraid that people are disinterested in listening to me.
But, this morning, during my morning prayer time, I felt as if God was just listening to me—my stories, my frustrations, my hopes, and my dreams. Then, I felt as if he embraced me and told me, “You’re worth listening to.”
I didn’t realize it until this morning. But, I was always afraid and uncomfortable to share my stories especially to authority figures because of how my parents raised us. Don’t get me wrong. I have the most amazing parents in the world. But, that’s one area of our relationship we’re still working on, especially during our weekly lunches.
And yes, you’re worth listening to as well. Maybe someone in your life made you feel otherwise. But, now, we’re ready to listen to you. God is listening to you.
What’s holding you back from sharing your story?
