Jesus asked the disciples, "Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?"
We often think that faith means believing that God will answer our prayers — when and how we want them to be answered. After all, Jesus said that "when you pray, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours."
But, faith also means overcoming fear. Fear of stepping out into the unknown. Fear when things aren’t going our way. Fear when God seems to be taking His time answering our prayers. Fear when God doesn’t even seem to bother. (In reality, He is just looking into our hearts and preparing His best answer in His perfect time.)
I believe Jesus saw the disciples’ lack of faith not because they didn’t command the wind and sea to be still. Jesus saw their lack of faith because they were overwhelmed by their fear.
Fear will never go away. But, we can overcome it — by surrendering with complete faith.
Why are you still terrified? Do you not yet have faith?
