That Thing Called…Persistence

Disclaimer: I’m sorry for the title but this post has nothing to do with the movie, That Thing Called Tadhana. I haven’t even seen the movie. I just found the title so catchy and wanted to use it. If I disappointed you in some way, I’m sorry. You can close this window and just continue what you’re doing. Thanks for visiting the blog! Hope you can visit it again…not because of the movie.

When my blog finally reach my target of 10,000 daily visitors, I will write an article about the “One Thing that Led Me to Success.”

I really do hope and pray that I will reach that target someday. But while I still have a long, long way to go, I’m going to write about it! How’s that for confidence?

I’m not a really good writer. I don’t use flowery words not because I don’t want to, but because I really can’t. My vocabulary is not really that wide. Still, my website’s traffic is slowly picking up.

My blog is not about something mainstream like food or travel as well. It’s difficult to build a brand about something that most people (or the “market”) are not that interested in.

I don’t think I’ll ever write about food especially now that I’m striving to become vegan. So far, I haven’t had any meat, fish, or dairy products for… two days! I really hope I can sustain it!

Maybe I’ll write about travel someday, but my work doesn’t allow me to travel long-term yet. I’m not a fan of over-the-weekend travels either. I want to experience different cultures and make new friends overseas. I don’t think you can do that in just one weekend (or one long weekend for that matter).

In case you’re wondering, my blog is about doing work that you love, living the life you want, and making a difference all under the theme of charging against conformity.

I’m not an extraordinary guy as well. I have yet to write a book or launch a successful business. Someday, maybe I will. I’m just an ordinary guy with extraordinary looks. Just kidding. But, I’m just an ordinary guy who works from 8-to-5 (if I’m not late for work) and belongs to a working class family in a third world country.

So, if there’s one thing that will lead me to success, it’s not because I’m cut above the rest when it comes to writing, it’s not because I’m a very interesting person with interesting likes, and it’s definitely not because I’m a success myself.

It’s because of that thing called persistence.

This blog will be up for almost a year on March. However, it’s still not where I want it to be in terms of readership. In fact, site traffic is picking up so slowly that it is still less than ten percent of where I want it to be!

But, I know I will not give up no matter what. I will not give up on figuring this thing called blogging out. I will not give up on writing valuable stuff for my readers. Pretty soon, my posts will no longer be just about motivation or inspiration. They will mostly be about practical stuff on how my readers can do work that they love, live the lives they want, and make a difference.

In the meantime, I will just keep on writing about the things I can write about (inspiration and motivation) while I’m trying to grow, learn, and do some things that can help my readers in the future.

When people are already giving up (especially that 95% of bloggers quit), I just know I won’t. Maybe I’ll take a break from writing once in a while, but I know I will never give up and stop trying.

When I finally succeed, persistence is one thing I will credit my success to. Of course, that will still come after God's grace and love.

How about you? Will you give up when others already have?
