We had a fun activity in our ministry two weeks ago. We looked up the meaning of our names. Here’s mine:
Carlo: Free man — Ever since I graduated from university, I always had a fascination with entrepreneurs and artists. I loved how they had the freedom to do or create what they wanted. Deep inside, I’m striving to become a full-time artist and entrepreneur so I can live freely.
Miguel: What the archangel Michael exclaimed when he vanquished Satan, “Who is like God?” — Two lessons: First, who indeed is like God? He is all-powerful. He provides. He saves. He loves. No one and nothing can take His place in our lives. Not even money or material things. Second, there are times when I take the place of God. I often think that I can do it alone. I worship myself by putting my wants and needs before the kingdom of God. But, then, I realize that I am nothing without God. Who is like God? Not me.
Cruz: Cross — The more I experience God’s love, the more I experience freedom, and the more my dreams get fulfilled, the more I realize what it means to live: to carry our own crosses and to live for God. God is the only One that matters. His work is the only work that matters. Serving God requires sacrifice driven by love.
Putting them all together, Carlo Miguel Cruz is a free man who carries his own cross to work for the Incomparable One.
No wonder why I’m so addicted to freedom. I want to be free so I can serve God full-time.
What does your name mean? Your identity gives your life purpose.
P.S. I thought I was just named after two beer brands: Carlsberg and San Miguel. But, God has a purpose even for something that seems random.
